Discord Banner Maker

Discord has three banner slots, and each one wants its own size. Make your artwork at the exact size in this table.

The invite splash is the background behind your invite link. The server banner sits above your channel list. The profile banner is the strip across your own Discord profile.

A boost is a monthly subscription a member buys to upgrade your server. Nitro is Discord's paid plan for one person. The slot does not appear until you have them.

Discord never squashes your image to fit. It scales it and cuts the edges instead, so what changes is how much of the edges you see. That is what the safe area below is for.

Get the size wrong and it shows:

• •Too small, and Discord stretches it. Text goes soft and edges go fuzzy.
• •Wrong shape, and Discord crops it. Usually your title.
• •Text near an edge disappears on one screen and not another.
• •On a profile, your avatar covers the lower left corner.

A safe area is the middle part that always survives. Discord shows the same banner at different widths on phones, on desktop, and in the invite preview. Anything close to an edge is at risk on at least one of them.

Turn on the safe area guide above and you get a dashed box. Keep your title and any words you care about inside it. The guide is drawn in the preview only, so it never reaches the file you download.

1. 1.Pick where the banner goes. Each Discord slot sets its own size, and the hint under the dropdown says what unlocks it. Pick Custom size if you are making something else.
2. 2.Choose a background. One color is safest and reads best small. Two colors adds a gradient. Your own image takes a PNG, JPG, or WebP off your device and crops it to fill.
3. 3.Type your title and one line under it. Keep the title short: it is drawn large, and 60 characters is the most it will take. The line under it takes 90.
4. 4.Set the text color and where it sits. The text always stays inside the dashed box. On a profile banner, check it also clears the circle where your avatar goes.
5. 5.Hit Download PNG. You get a file at the exact size printed next to the button. The name carries the banner size rather than that one, so a double-size download ends in @2x. Upload it in Discord under Server Settings, or in your own profile settings.

A banner is seen small and for about a second. Almost everything that makes one good follows from that:

• •Say one thing. Your name, plus a line on what happens here.
• •Make the name big. Small text vanishes at this size.
• •Use strong contrast. Light on dark, or dark on light.
• •Darken photos before putting text on them.
• •Keep the lower left clear on profile banners.
• •Match the colors of your server icon.
• •Skip the fine print. Nobody reads it here.

Shrink the banner until it is about as wide as your thumb. If the name is still readable, you are done. If it is not, make the text bigger rather than moving things around.

Photos are where most banners fall down. A photo has detail everywhere, and text needs somewhere quiet to sit. Darkening the image gives your words that space, which is why that switch is on by default.

Use the same colors here, on your server icon, and on your roles. Three matching pieces read as a brand. Three different ones read as three people taking turns.
