Create sprint
Learn everything you need to know about sprints in Zealy

Overview
Basics
A sprint is a leaderboard that is only available for a limited time. You can use sprints to run competitions, events, or other time-limited activities. Sprints are a great way to engage contributors and increase their motivation. You can also use sprints to promote new modules or quests.
Create sprint
To configure a sprint click 'Plan a sprint' on the top right of the leaderboard page. You can only have one sprint running at the same time.
Set the timeframe
Set the sprint's start and end dates. The sprint becomes visible to contributors only during this period. Points (XP) accrued from quests and manual entries within this timeframe contribute towards the sprint.
Configuring quests
Select specific quests to include in the sprint, or leave all quests active by default. You can add more quests even after the sprint starts by clicking 'Add quests' and choosing the relevant ones. Contributors will see an additional tab displaying only the quests active in the sprint.
Sprint rewards & reward zone
You have two options for configuring sprint rewards:
Reward Pools (Zaps or USDC)
Reward pools are managed and distributed automatically by Zealy. By default, the pool is distributed proportionally to users based on their XP earned during the sprint, within the reward zone if specified.
Benefits of reward pools:
- Trust: Winners know they'll receive rewards since Zealy handles distribution
- Maximum exposure: Sprints with reward pools are promoted on the Zealy homepage
- Zero management: No manual distribution needed after the sprint ends
Important: Once a sprint with a reward pool is launched, you cannot edit the dates, reward zone, or pool size to ensure fairness for participants.
Tiered Distribution (Optional)
Instead of proportional XP based distribution, you can enable Tiered Distribution to allocate rewards based on rank ranges. Each tier receives a percentage of the total pool, split evenly among members in that rank range. This creates clear, predictable payouts where users within the same tier always receive the exact same reward.
To enable tiered distribution:
- Add a USDC reward pool to your sprint
- Toggle "Use rank-based tiers" in the Tiered Distribution section
- Configure your tier ranges and percentage allocations
- Ensure your percentages total exactly 100%
Example configuration with a $100 USDC pool:
| Tier | Ranks | Allocation | Per User |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🥇 | 1-3 | 50% | $16.67 |
| 🥈 | 4-10 | 30% | $4.29 |
| 🥉 | 11-50 | 20% | $0.50 |
Built-in validation helps you avoid common mistakes:
- Overlapping ranges: Each rank should only belong to one tier
- Gap detection: Warns if any ranks between tiers would receive no rewards
- Inverted rewards: Alerts you if lower ranks would receive more than higher ranks
- Percentage limits: Ensures allocations total exactly 100%
The tier breakdown is displayed directly on the leaderboard, so participants can see exactly what each rank position earns before competing.
Custom Rewards
With custom rewards, you outline the prizes and manage the distribution yourself after the sprint ends. This gives you full control over reward allocation but requires manual management.
Optionally, define a 'Reward Zone' to specify the lowest rank eligible for prizes, which will be clearly marked on the leaderboard.
